Worth the money!
This cast-iron Dutch oven came preseasoned and is worth it’s weight and gold. I love cast iron for its durability and safe cooking! We prefer it to nonstick or ceramic because it will last forever if you take care of it. This particular item is 9 quarts and holds an 8 pound bone in pork shoulder. We use it most for cooking large batches of Carnitas for family gatherings. I highly recommend getting the preseasoned one because the lodge does it perfectly for you, then all you have to do is maintain it. We are going to end up passing this Dutch oven down to our kids one day.😉

I have a larger version of the same and mostly use both for live fire cooking outside. They would both do fine in the oven and stove top, too.
As expected they hold heat so well, and as is really helpful over fire, help with distribute heat well too. Protects from scorching.

They clean up easy and stay in great shape with a light oil coating, as you know.

Great to have the right lid and hanging bail, though my hooks would hold them better with the more basic wire bail rather than this nicer coiled version.

I like how Lodge is in TN, and I will continue to support them with my purchases.

I see some craftsmen are grinding lodge surfaces smooth and then seasoning them. This replicates the classic cast iron of our grandparents, and likely makes for an even better surface. Probably more noticeable in the skillets and pans than the Dutch ovens.

Can't go wrong with Lodge cast iron Dutch oven. Retains heat very well Cooks evenly just a great cast iron Dutch oven. Just know that this is heavy if you have problems lifting you might think about it. On the other hand for all those who love cooking with cast iron this is the product! You can make cobblers, stews, beans, stewed apples, just a wonderful cook pot. Do yourself a favor by yourself one, by a friend or family member one of these. You will not be disappointed. Be sure after you have washed and dried this pot that you keep it oiled and you don't want to wash it with a lot of harsh chemicals or soap nor do you want to soak it in water for very long. After you've washed it you can put it on the burner and dry it that way turn your burner off and then take some oil while your pan is still warm and season your skillet or your Dutch oven or what other cast iron you're using. Maintaining cast iron Dutch oven. Lodge is my go-to for cast iron cookware.

9 Quarts. Nine. That's around twice what a normal enamel dutch oven holds, which average around 4 or 5.
This thing is big enough to cook almost anything you want. It can replace an entire set of pots and pans for one-pot/one-pan meals. It's wide enough to use as a skillet, it's got enough capacity to use as a stock pot. It can be thrown in the oven or into hot coals. You can probably even use it like a griddle and put short handled pots or pans into it, though I haven't tried this. If you have enough space I don't doubt you could broil in this thing as well. I'm pretty sure it can fit a whole bird, so if you throw a trivet in you won't need a special purpose pan for the holidays either.

But that also is a downside. It's big, it's heavy, you need a lot of space to clean it. If your sink is wide and deep enough, no problem. But if you have a small apartment sink? It can be a little tough. The actual methods and ease of cleaning is the same as any cast iron. And the handle is a great one with a wire bail for grip and (stovetop only) insulation.

If you want to meal prep, this can do it. If you're cooking for a family, this will handle it. If you do potlucks, you'll make enough for everyone. With a large pot comes the ability to process large amounts of food, so if you're being frugal this can save effort as you're not having to cook in small batches.

Anything bigger and you're outside the territory of a normal domestic kitchen, and into the realm of outdoor cooking or high end huge ovens.

Gran capacidad de cocción. Esta cosa te sobrevivira a ti, a tus hijos, tus nietos, visnietos, tataranietos, etc. Es hierro desnudo, es decir sin pintura ni nada para evitar el contacto con el oxigeno del aire. Se oxidaria facilmente de no ser por que ya viene curado, osea que tiene una capa de aceite que lo protege, pero cada vez que utilices este horno debes lavarlo solo con agua tibia, (no detergente porque le quitarias la capa de grasa que lo protege) secarlo y untarle otra capa de aceite para protegerlo mientras llega el siguiente uso.

Will last generations. Use common sense and few basic rules and seasoning will only get better with time. No acidic dishes with tomatoes for the start. For this seasoning has to improve over a few cooking sessions. No chemicals to wash it with.
Keep it dry after each use. Use water only and high temperature will keep it sterilised, clean and safe. Bit of rust? Scrub it off and apply a bit of rapeseed or any high smoke point oil.
Your grandchildren and great grandchildren will cook recalling your name in their conversations. This pot potentially could become your legacy. Your " non omnis moriar"
